House of Mercy Volunteers

Volunteers are an integral part of the operations at House of Mercy. We are grateful for those who donate their time on a flexible basis providing residents with meals, companionship, and social activities.

We especially encourage volunteers to consider organizing a meal, cookout, or holiday celebration on a weekend or evening when our Coordinator of Resident Recreation is not here. For instance, a small group might prepare a July Fourth cookout using our gas grill followed by sparklers or a fireworks display in our front parking lot for residents to enjoy from the front porch. Or maybe you'd like to organize a game night or movie night after a meal? Other ideas: bring ice cream and toppings for an ice cream social or share Christmas cookies, punch, and carols one December evening after dinner. We are open to your suggestions.

Volunteer activities may include, but are not limited to:

  • Cook meals for our six residents

  • Visit, play games, or read with residents

  • General housekeeping

  • Lawn and garden maintenance

  • On-site laundry or ironing

  • Participate in or assist with fundraising events (e.g. Start a Walk for AIDS team or help staff the event)

  • Help with clerical duties (newsletter bulk mail preparation)

  • Collect or donate Wish List items (gift cards for Ayrsley Grand Cinema movie tickets in Charlotte, Walmart, Cook-Out, Golden Corral, Pizza Hut, Tony's Ice Cream, KFC, and local restaurants are current favorites!)

If you are interested in volunteering at House of Mercy or would like additional information, please call our Volunteer Coordinator at 704-825-3000. Click here to complete our volunteer application. Please note: all volunteers who work directly with residents are required to attend an orientation before volunteering.
